One Way House, Lamu, Kenya
A restoration of a Swahili house in the island of Lamu.
In respecting the unique Swahili architecture of Lamu, we restored this derelict building into a three stories house. A shop was created in the corner of the building to entice the passing trade.
The entrance opens into a classic courtyard where the main staircase welcomes guests. The first floor allocates several common areas such as a dining room, the swimming pool and a covered lounge, as well as two ensuite bedrooms. The second floor contains two more bedrooms designed with a terrace where one can observe island life as it passes by.
